What’s Good?!

I recently got to meet up with Baltimore Native – DJ Nick. For those of who don’t know, DJ Nick has released numerous mixtapes including – The Big Payback – series. He is also the official DJ for Baltimore native – A$AP Ant, of the A$AP Mob.

I am from Maryland myself, and its dope to see/meet people from your home state who love Hip Hop, and that want to put on for the culture of where they’re from. With New York City being so close; in more ways than one, there is a relative love for old school Hip Hop that many people in share. Maryland and New York are close in location, but very different in culture. They do both share a similar gritty vibe though, and when I listen to DJ Nick’s projects I can hear the passion from each artist, and that “take no shit” attitude; the kind that resembles classic East Coast artists such as Wu-Tang, Dipset, KRS-One, and many others.

I’d never met Nick before the other day, but I knew Ant had a show in Los Angeles, so I hit up Nick on twitter. When I met up with him and A$AP Lotto, I already knew what their first question was going be…

We drove to a dispensary in North Hollywood, and grabbed the finest OG. Then headed back to their place in Silverlake. We talked about Baltimore, and music, amongst other things. DJ Nick was telling me that he got the name his mixtape series from the classic EPMD record – “The Big Payback” – off their album– ‘Unfinished Business.’ It was cool to learn this from Nick because his series reminds me of the vintage 90’s East Coast style. All of the artists on it have a very raw sound, even the ones who aren’t from the east, and they all tie together well.

After a while, the brownies Nick ate started to kick in, and everyone was just chillin. It really aint hard to vibe out in such a location (see the view – above) Take a listen to – The Big Payback – mixtapes, below. Be on the lookout for more from A$AP Ant & DJ Nick, and as always Stay Positive!
