Today I’d like to familiarize you with the up and coming rap duo The League, from Los Angeles, CA.  They go by the names JurassIQ Wax and Phresco Cool (P.Cool), and together they express a unique style, and point of view. Their music is very energetic with a lyric flow that is smooth, youthful, and optimistic. Check out them out here below. Their music and videos will be sure to entertain you! Now let’s hear how it all got started for The League, and what they have in store for the future.

1. Where is The League from?

P.Cool: Well we are both from LA County, but I’m from the South Central part of LA, Hyde Park to be specific.

JurassIQ Wax: Compton.

2. What is it like growing up in Southern California?

P.Cool: For me SoCal, especially LA is fast, in just about everything except for music. Growing up I got caught up in trends and fads, but there was always 2 things that I was always attracted to and that was music and skateboarding. Skating and music kept me somewhat in the middle, I wasn’t the trendsetter, but I learned to do me. I learned through music fashion, life, slang and so forth. Skateboarding helped me also fashionably, musically, & allowed me to broaden my mind.

JurassIQ Wax: I didn’t know how crazy LA is until I moved to Atlanta. I had never been outside of Cali, so I thought everywhere was just like Compton. But it was cool growing up in Compton. I mean, I was poor but at least the weather was proper.

3. How did you the two of you meet?

P.Cool: We met our sophomore year in high school.

JurassIQ Wax: At school, Kanye had just dropped College Dropout. The rest is history in the making.

4. Who were some artists that influence your music?

P.Cool: The first artist that truly influenced my style was Kanye West! But I looked up to artists like Fabolous, Ludacris, and OUTKAST. Among those rappers Gil Scott Heron, Erykah Badu, Sade and so on. Although those artists are all ahead of me, I’m very much influenced and inspired by peers in music of all genres.

JurassIQ Wax: My mom never let me listen to rap growing up. The first CD I bought was the Goofy Movie soundtrack and the Men In Black single. That was kind of irrelevant but it illustrates how I was inspired by any and every artist really. There’s something to take away from everybody. But if I had to answer that, Kanye definitely. A lot of the “new” artists. Also, DJ Quik, Pac. Everybody.

5. Your music is very different and has a unique sound. Could you explain your creative process?

P.Cool: During each of our projects I try not to listen to a lot of new music or watch too much TV. I usually listen to College Dropout, Late Registration, Section 80, & Good Kid MAAD City. Reason being is I don’t want to listen to any thing or watch anything that would sway me to alter my style. I always challenge myself to write better music, and sometimes my verses come in our home studio “The Stadium” and sometimes I may be out and about and get struck with inspiration and I write right then & there. Sometimes I write without a beat and sometimes I write to the beat.

JurassIQ Wax: We don’t force it. Our best music comes out of the feeling, and the truth. I’ll hear a beat and words will instantly pop into my head. That’s how I know it’s going to sound good. On the flip side I can go weeks without inspiration. It’s tough, but when it’s right….it’s right. We just get in the stadium and press play and see what happens.

6. What do you want people to take away from the music?

P.Cool: I really just want people to feel more positive about Life! I want people to feel good about themselves, and know that life has it’s ups and downs, and I may not know you but our struggles my be the same, and I came out a better person, and since I made it out a winner you can too!

JurassIQ Wax: Be original. Because that’s the coolest shit you can be, yourself. Our music is about authenticity, telling the truth, and not being afraid to show the world who you are.

7. Do you have a project dropping this year?

P.Cool: We have a project dropping very soon look out for it, the title is undisclosed at this time, but will be released to everyone soon!

JurassIQ Wax: Yea man…what he said.

8. Anything else you would like to add?

JurassIQ Wax: Shoutout to all of the coolies, those are the people that support us. Our small fan base makes us feel like we are superstars because they show so much love and go so hard. It’s good to know there are people that still believe in the underdog, that still support the unknowns.
