Hip Hop Hundred Interviews Arjaye Jeter

What’s up everyone! It has been a while since I have done an interview, so it feels good to finally put another out! This time we have some talent from Chicago. He’s an artist/producer who goes by the name Arjaye Jeter. His music has a lot of soul, with a focus on keeping it real, and making quality Hip Hop. Q. Where Are You From?

A: I’m from Chicago, Illinois.

Q: What is it like growing up/living in Chicago? I have never been there.

A: I’ve grown up on the Southside. Went to school in the south suburbs then moved back to the city after I dropped out of college. I have a pretty diverse experience growing up here, Downtown is amazing. Just in Chicago it’s a little bit of something for everyone no matter what your into from the entertainment to the cuisine. Chicago is amazing.

Q: What about the city influences you?

A. I’ve always felt like in Chicago if you can make it in our city you can make it anywhere. It’s a lot of people who struggle day to day but there are also people who work super hard and are dedicated and it’s inspiring. I feel like even the way people are in Chicago you really have to go hard at what you do to get any type of attention.

Q: Who did you listen to growing up?

A: When I was with my Mom she listened to R.Kelly, Boyz II Men, Prince, Micheal Jackson and Lauryn Hill, but when I was with my Dad I would hear Tupac, Biggie, Ice Cube, Snoop, Jay-Z, Nas so I kind of grew up listening to a lot of stuff all while in the car with my parents lol. For myself though I really was into Kanye West and Jay-Z when I started rapping.

Q. How did you get into rapping and producing?

A: I got into rapping because all my friends rapped and we where in a group and like 3 years after we started rapping we did a song together and my homie his Dad put us on stage as one of the Warm up acts for Lil Wayne Holiday takeover in 2007, ever since then I’ve taken my music very serious. As far as production I was a big Cool Kids fan and I liked Chuck Inglish so Chuck inspired me to make beats.

Q: What do you want to accomplish through your music?

A: I want to just spread some positivity in the world, have some fun and motivate the next person who has a goal and wants to achive it. I want my music to make people feel good and spread some knowledge.

Q: What is the local scene is Chicago like?

A: The local scene isn’t what people think it is. It’s very one sided, you almost have to go outside of Chicago to get noticed in Chicago. If your not in the inner circle you pretty much get nudged out until you do something big enough to make people notice you, it sucks but, that’s how it is right now. Too many egos.

Q: How do you go about your 9-5 grind and also trying to make it with music?

A: My 9-5 is really a 8:30AM-10:30PM some days lol. It’s hard man, I work myself ragged man, I’m pretty exhausted throughout the week, but you got to sacrifice some of your time to making your dreams come true.

Q: Any new music or projects coming up?

A. Chillin to the 15th. That’s the big one. And I’ve got a few videos I’m finishing up as singles.
