What’s up everyone?! I hope you all are doing well, and are looking forward toward the future. Right now, it’s time again for the Song Of The Week. This weeks pick goes to Compton, CA artist (who recently dropped his dope – Idle Time – project) Buddy; featuring Gary, IN native Freddie Gibbs. This one’s titled – “Kids On The Block” – with smooth production by Polyester. There is an automatic youthful vibe to this record; as the beat creeps in and out, it’s full of unexpected movement, and it carries you on a vigorous ride. Off top, it impeccably creates the audible image of it’s title. Buddy kicks off the verse with a flowing description of the next generation making their way off the front porch, and out into the streets. He shares some wisdom about the reality of what appeals to young’n’s, and gives some words of wisdom. Gangsta Gibbs comes hard with next verse detailing some rough history, and how the streets of Gary aren’t a joke. Buddy hypnotizes on the hook with the feeling of now being on the other side of the-come-up, and looking out at the next generation. Each youngster has their own struggle; their own environment to conquer, and dreams to fulfill. Their curiousity and confidence can get them everything they want, but it can also get them into a world of trouble. Teach the youth that their mind is the most powerful tool they have. Looking out for the young one’s in your community, filling them with knowledge, perspective, and encouragement, is only right. This might be a bit imaginatively far-out to some; but if you do not teach the children of your village how to outsmart the wild beasts of the jungle (of which they will some day reign as leaders) than the jungle -with all it’s beasts and mysterious temptations- will outsmart them. Legacy is everything. Create one.
Take a listen to the song below. Be sure to check out the rest of Buddy’s – Idle Time – and as always Stay Positive!
