What’s goin on everyone? Hope you all are enjoying your Memorial Day weekend. This past week, I was chillin in the beautiful city of Virginia Beach, VA. The city was calm, yet there was this energy of the summer season buzzing off the walls of every building; kind of like the calm before the storm. On Thursday night, there was a hip hop show near the beach at Shaka’s Night Spot, that included 2013 XXl Freshman, Las Vegas Representer, and Funk Volume artist Dizzy Wright. This was the first time I’ve been to a hip hop show in the South. I know VA is not the Deep South, but it is very southern compared to where I’m from in Central MD. The atmosphere was extremely chill as the crowd waited for Dizzy. Around 9 pm, Dizzy Wright hit the stage with DJ Hoppa spinning on the tables. It was real cool to feel the vibe of the southern crowd mesh with Dizzy and Hoppa’s natural west coast charm. Dizzy was smiling the whole time, performing his laid back tracks; filled with lyrics that promote doing the right thing, staying positive, and being human. When he performed “Independent Living” the whole crowd went ham; everyone jumping up and down! I know, from watching his performance that Dizzy is passionate about his music. He uses an honest, artistic, and down to earth expression of pure human emotions to tell his story. Dizzy Wright is also a part of Hopsin’s Funk Volume label. In my eyes, they represent the freedom to say what you want, and the ability to have complete control of your music. I can tell that if he keeps going at it, amazing things will happen!
