What’s going on everyone! I’m back with another interview… this time with the group 9BMC. This collective of young MC’s touch a youthful place in my mind. Lyrics erupt a stream of laid back, just kickin it, be cool memories from my younger years. By ear, their music makes me feel free, and transcend a good vibe. The production on their tracks is sick… in fact I find some of it to be a bit hypnotizing. The videos are entertaining as well and there is a good variety of songs amongst 9BMC’s many members, so give them a listen…I know you’ll like what you hear. You can Check Out two videos here below. For now, let’s get to know a bit about the group with some words from member JuegoTheNinety.
1. Where is 9BMC from?
We’re from Baltimore
2. What inspired you to want to make music?
I (Juego) started wanting to make music when I was about 11. I’d just write stupid songs about how I was a pimp and had all the bitches. Then around 14 I started feeling like the rappers that were out at the time weren’t impressive and that me and my camp could make more entertaining music effortlessly. So we would record ourselves freestyle and give fake interviews on a video camera, all in my mom’s basement. But when Rock (Witty Rock) started recording in the studio toward the end of high school is when we all started really putting thought into making music something bigger than what we had been doing all along.
3. What is 9BMC? How many members, and what do they all do?
9BMC stands for 90s BayB Mastermind Camp … There’s about 11 of us total but only 6 of us rap (have work to show for it) ; JuegoTheNinety, Witty Rock, Chase ( Aka Young Chase gOD), TnT, Smokey Blacc, and our producer Ralph French.
4. How does your creative process start?
Really, my creative process doesn’t stop. I just try to let everything inspire me. The pretty shit, the dark shit, things that I’ve seen or heard or even just my imagination. Whenever I sit down to write a verse I try to imagine who I’m writing as and just let that character take control. I always jot down funny ignorant lines so I usually start with one of those to make sure I captivate the listeners. Whether they love it or hate it I just want to evoke some type of emotion from people.
5. Any plans for 2013?
Of course there are plans for this year. I (Juego) am dropping my first solo project “Opium Float” feb.19 … Rock is dropping his “Morning Breath” EP the following month. Chase and TnT have projects in the works… and we have video we are just waiting to release. So we really plan on having all eyes on us starting this year.
