What’s going on everyone?! Thank you all for continuing to support Hip Hop Hundred. I’m pleased to say that we’re back with another interview. This time I want to shine the light on an MC coming from South Los Angeles, by the name of DUBB. You may also know him as “California’s Mixtape King” for he has created quite a buzz. It isn’t hard to tell why so many people are addicted to DUBB’s music. His lyrics and flow are so enthralling that you just have to hear more. Not to mention, with so many songs to his name, there is undoubtedly a little something for everyone. As a whole, DUBB’s music is inspiring. A real laid back vibe with a lot of soul, a whole lot of truth, intelligence, and creativity is how I’d describe his art. He spits those real life rhymes, and preaches positivity in a novel fashion. DUBB knows struggle, and how hard work can make you become whatever you want to be. His music instills that necessary message that we are only as big as we believe we can grow. I encourage you to give a listen here below. You will not be disappointed! Right now let’s get to know a little about the artist himself…

1. Who are you and where are you from?

My name is DUBB I’m a rapper from the South Central Section of Los Angeles, California

2. What is it like growing up in South Central?

There were a lot of ups and there were a lot of downs, all of my experiences in the hood made me the man and artist that I am today. South Central is just like every other city in America where economically speaking there is poverty. It is no secret that LA is the gang capital of the world so I most definitely seen and experienced a lot in terms of drugs and violence.

3. I know DUBB has to stand for something…what would that be?

DUBB in its acronym sense stands for Determined Unique Beyond Belief; I feel that’s who I am as an artist.

4. How did you get into making music?

I started rapping seriously when I was 17. I actually quit my first love which was basketball to pursue rapping, I simply fell in love with it and I haven’t looked back since. I know some of my former coaches are mad cause I had a mean jump shot back then (laughs)

5. How would you describe your sound?

My sound is authentic, original, and refreshing. I represent versatility yet staying true to the integrity of my sound. It’s no secret that I really became known in the underground mixtape circuit because of my lyrical and rhyme ability. As the years progressed I focused more on song writing and the more creative and artistic side of being an artist.

6. Why do they call you “California’s Mixtape King?”

They call me California’s Mixtape king because as I mentioned before I really started in that underground mixtape circuit. I really got the respect and love not only from the streets but also from the pure “hip hop” crowd. I want to take the time to shout out DJ’s like Ill Will who supported me early on. Growing up my favorite rappers were artists like Jadakiss he had an influence on me.

7. How do you feel about West Coast Hip Hop right now?

I feel that not only West Coast hip hop but hip hop as a whole is in a progressing state right now but we as a culture still have a lot of work to do. I have never nor intend on solely just marketing myself as the “West Coast” rapper because I get a lot of love and support from other regions and places like the East Coast , Midwest and the South. But I am happy for all the artists from my city that’s making good music and creating a better life for themselves and their families.

8. What has been your most rewarding moment from making music?

The most rewarding moments for me is when people acknowledge me for my music. Whether that recognition is good or bad, my appreciation begins with the fact that a person even took time out of their day to listen to me. Overall I am very confident in what I do so every day that I am living and I can make music is a special moment for me.

9. Do you have any plans or goals that must be accomplished in 2013?

My plans and goals in 2013 are to continue to follow the path in which God has laid out for me. I know that this answer may come off vague to some people but stay tuned in with me and my AV8ERS movement in 2013.

10. Any last words…?

I would like to give a shout out to everyone who supports my music. I would like to thank all of the writers, bloggers, blogs and hip hop based website for their support. I would like to thank all of my peers, DJ’s and producers. I would like to thank Hip Hop Hundred.com for this interview as well as my business partners Chippy and Eazy. My new project the “Black Box EP” drops March 27th, 2013 and that will be available and released exclusively on ITunes. I also want to give a shout out to my artist Yung Mars y’all be on the lookout for him later this year he’s currently working on his first official mixtape called the “Role Model”
