What’s good everyone?! Today, we are back with a new interview! We speak with Los Angeles artist DBTHAGAWD. DBTHAGAWD recently released his new project (.Wavs). The new album is amazing and is full of lots of positive energy and talent! We spoke with DBTHAGAWD about his influences, how he got his name and much much more! Stream/Read below!

1. Where are you from and what is it like growing up there?

I’m from South Central LA very close to Inglewood and not too far from St. Andrews Park. Growing up here has taught me hella lessons and shaped me to be who I am today. I got a love/hate relationship with my section but mostly it’s all love.

2. What music inspired you growing up?

Growing up my parents played a lot of oldies and Jazz. My pops always had 94.7 playing in the car and my mom listen to damn near everything! My sister played hella Timbaland & Magoo, Aaliyah, Ginuwine and Dru Hill. I started liking Jay-Z, The Neptunes, Slum village, little brother, Dilla, DOOM and a lot more! All of that inspired me to do what I do now.

3. Where did you get your name from?

The name DBTHAGAWD came from me having so many name changes lol. One of my nicknames was doughboy so I stared going by that as a rapper. Then I seen hella rappers named that so I shortened it to “DB”. Then me and my boy DK started this acronym called G. A. W. D. S. meaning getting all what’s deserved substantially. So I added GAWD to DB and the rest is history!

4. Tell us about your new project, the sounds, the meaning etc.

(.wavs) is a project that I spent maybe a year and a half putting together. I was going through a lot and making this was like therapy for me to be honest. I called it (.wavs) to serve two purposes. One, .wav files sound better to me and this was my way of showing that I’ve gotten better with my production since my last couple beat tapes I’ve put out. Second, it’s about the “waves” of emotions I was going through while making this. Each track represents some waves I was dealing with. The sound I was going for was on a real mellow calming vibe. Something you can play anytime with whatever you are doing.

5. What do you want people to take away from your music?

I just want people to FEEL when they listen to my music. I want it to be an experience, I want people to feel the same way they do after watching a really good movie or reading a really good book. I just want people to vibe and also understand the message behind it all.

6. If you could work with any artist/producer who would it be?

Man I hate this question cause I have so many people I would love to work with and fuckin with me I can end up with a whole 2 page list of niggas lol but there’s definitely a lot.

7. What are your plans for the rest of 2022?

The rest of 2022 will be dedicated to (.wavs) and few other singles I’ll be dropping. But it’s all about (.wavs) right now.

8. Anything else you would like the world to know…

I want people to get familiar with tha GAWD and what comes with me! Shout out to Jelani Sipho, Myke Tyler, AYP and the good folks at Art Project Recordings!!!
