What’s good everyone?! Today, we are back with another interview, we speak with Southern California’s DJ INFERNO. DJ INFERNO explains his musical influences, how he got into DJing in middle school, his favorite type of music to play, DJ’s he would like to work, how successful his last set was & much more!
I have included two of his mixes, they flow real smooth and have a diverse set of artists included. Check everything out below!
1. Where are you from and what was it like growing up there?
I am from Hesperia, California but also grew up in Covina, California. Growing up in these cities were pretty calm. Not a whole lot going on, but still able to have fun and do stuff here and there. I grew up playing a lot of sports, so most of my childhood was spent at the parks and rec centers. I’ve also been involved in music through my life so spent some time as the music centers and always went to the concerts in the park with my family.
2. What music inspired you growing up?
Growing up I started listening to a lot of electronic/EDM music from DJs such as Skrillex and Deadmau5. I was also listening to alot of west coast rap from artists such as Dr. Dre, Snoop, and Ice Cube, which really help shaped my sound as I started to get more into Hip-Hop/Rap scene. I first started doing alot of remixes of popular Hip-Hip songs with electronic type effects.
3. What made you want to get into DJing?
I remember one day in middle school I was at school and one of my friends was showing me a YouTube video. It was a video of the now famous DJ Bl3nd doing his thing in his notorious chucky mask. I thought what he was doing was so cool and wanted to give it a try, so later that week I bought my first dj controller. The rest is history from there.
4. Tell us about your latest gig and how that went?
My latest gig was at ‘Nation Day’, a pool party hosted by well known party host/promoters Ty and Kenny. I Dj’ed with well known DJs YikeMike and DJ Bugsy. It was definitely a great event with a crazy turnout. There wasn’t a moment that people weren’t turning up while I was DJing. It was one for the books forsure.
5. Tell us what you play in your mixes?
The main type of music that I play in my mixes is Hip-Hop and Rap. More focused on the west coast style of Hip-Hop, but still playing songs from all over. Recently I started expanding my music catalog getting more into Latin/Reggaeton as well as many other genres such as Country, Rock, and Pop.
6. How would you describe your style as a DJ?
I would say my style is very unique to me because I have a very unique style of mixing. I don’t like to stick to just one type of transition and utilize many transitions such as scratching, or going from vocals to instrumentals. I also have implemented into my sound my DJ Tag “Your Girlfriend’s Favorite DJ”, so when people hear that, they think, “Oh yeah, this is Inferno’s mix”.
7. Do you have plans to work for a radio station or break artists in the music industry?
I would say that working as radio station DJ or being an official DJ for an artist would be a goal forsure. Currently I don’t have any specific plans for this, but it’s all in time and up to the man above for whatever he has planned for myself.
8. What is your favorite music to play?
My favorite type of music to play is club style music. Music that gets people dancing and not wanting to leave the dance floor. That is one of the best feelings as a DJ is seeing people dancing to what you’re playing.
9. Who would you want to work with?
In terms of DJs, a dream collab would be with DJ Mustard as he is a staple of west coast Hip-Hop and club music. Another collab I would want to do is with Blxst, and work on a DJ hosted tape for him.
10. Anything else you want the world to know…
I truly appreciate everyone that has been supporting me, it truly hasn’t gone unnoticed! The takeover is near, don’t sleep on me!
