What’s going on everyone! Today, we are back with a new interview! This time, we speak with upcoming artist Vinny Mac. Vinny Mac is coming to us from North Carolina. Vinny has a real positive style, full of energy and great bars! We speak on his upbringing, artists and producers he would like to work with and much much more! Check it out all below!
1. Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I’m from Brooklyn, New York but I grew up in Elizabeth City/Hertford(252) NC and Norfolk, Virginia. A best of both worlds situation growing up “down south” but visiting and spending summers with family back home in BK. So I’m familiar with city life and small town living. We moved around quite a bit when I was younger so I was the “new kid” a lot. It forced me to stand on my own two feet instead of trying to “fit in.”
2. What music inspired you growing up?
Growing up I was r&b heavy at first(Still is)! Of course Michael Jackson! Stevie Wonder! 80s & 90s R&B as we all know ain’t no joke! Kriss Kross and Bone Thugs N Harmony were my first heroes of rap. I swore I was Krayzie Bone! When Bad Boy came into my view it was a wrap. I wanted to be Biggie, Puff and Mase. Fashion and all. Of course Rocafella, Ruff Ryders and Murder Inc was just as influential. Especially Rocafella. Hov and Beans along with Big, Mase, BDK, LL Cool J,Slick Rick, Nas and Mobb Deep helped birth my early raps. Father MC too. Salute to Uptown Records! Music that “touches” you inspire me to this day.
3. Tell us about your latest release..
My latest release is my second album,CUZ GOD SAID SO VOL.2! The first on my imprint, STEPOUT STAND OUT LLC, my multimedia company! This album and my “sound” I like to call “Champion Sound”; music for those of us fighting to make a dream a reality, see a vision through, going through that process of growing pains doing the work! It’s soulful, from the heart, witty, bar heavy, fly shit! Music you can FEEL! Check it out! Available everywhere online!
4. If you could work with any artist who would it be?
Collaborations can be tricky. I’d say collaborating with someone who mixes greatly with me would be ideal. Of course I’m a fan of a lot of artists so in the general sense I’d love to collab with Fabolous, Ransom, Pusha T, Rick Ross, Kendrick, JCole, Larry June, Wale, Lox, Jim Jones, the spitters. Missy! I’d be curious to hear what a Drake collab would sound like. Hov is too obvious but only if I had THE song, a certified CLASSIC. Nas too! R&B side, SZA, Jacquees, Chris Brown, H.E.R., the special ones. I’m a music junkie!
5. If you could work with any producer who would it be?
Producers? I’d LOVE an executive produced album with Puff! It’d be an honor to be under that tutelage and really push myself! Kanye, Swizz, Timbaland, Madlib, Nicholas Craven, No I.D.! JD! Dre! HitBoy! List goes on!
6. What do you want the world to take away from your music?
I want the world to take away from my music is to do YOU! Be who you are and embrace the path that GOD has set for you! Your kind of fly! Your principles and standards! Fight for your truths and go for yours! In these group thinking times, there’s nothing wrong with being yourself! STEPOUT STANDOUT!!!!
7. What plans do you have for 2022?
My plans for 2022 include more content and more music on the way! I want to drop more often and I plan to! Build the brand! I am excited for the future and building on the momentum of quality art! My goal is to always create what is true to me and trust that it’ll reach who it’s for. I love to say #DONTBURYYOURGIFTS and I stand on that!
8. What are some of the things beside music that inspire you?
Aside from music, all forms of art and expression that “touches” me, inspires me. I am also a movie junkie as well, I believe there is a line of communication in all art and I love to find those lines. Fashion, photography, novels, all expression is art to me! I love learning about the history of people I might look up to, learning what it took for them to hit their mark. I am a constant student!
