What’s good everyone?! Last night, Los Angeles artist Hopsin came through D.C. on his Knock Madness Tour. He’s about half way through the tour’s 50+ stops, and has already covered the Mid-West and North- Eastern side of the U.S. Hopsin is such a unique, gifted creator; and his Funk Volume label is full of artists who each vibe bright in bringing forth their own style, and individual talent. I have to say that I wasn’t sure what to expect from his live performance. Despite the (9 degree) weather, I knew I had to check out this show. And I’m glad I did, because it was so inspirational to me.
Before Hopsin came out, the laid back DJ Hoppa spinned some records, and set an energetic tone. When Hopsin hit the stage, the whole crowd was hyped. The fans were really into every song; they knew all the words, and showed him a lot of love. It made the show intimate; which made it meaningful. A few songs in, he grabbed a fan to come on stage and help out with a record. The fan performed the entire verse of Funk Volume artist SwizZz. The night got even better when Hopsin decided to start a cypher; grabbing three fans from the crowd to spit some of their own rhymes. Overall, it was a cool and inspiring experience. It gave me confidence, and only added strength to my belief that it is possible to achieve great success off of talent and individuality. Hopsin has created his own world through being himself. By striving for creative freedom, he has brought the world a new view on what a Hip Hop artist can be; and he has succeeded as far as I can see.
Knock Madness Tour will be heading down South next, then back West to close out its [U.S. run] in LA – They’ll be heading overseas for the remainder of the tour dates; finishing up at the end of April, in Europe.
